Medora
North Dakota
May 2015
Medora, North Dakota, is a cute little tourist town at the edge of the south unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It’s north of White Butte, the high point of North Dakota, and east of a town called Home on the Range in North Dakota.
Throughout its history, Medora has always been a cattle town so I guess you could say that the place has always been filled with cattle men, or as we call them, cowboys. Every night during the warm season, the town offers the Medora Musical, a bunch of folks who dress up like cowboys and cowgirls — kind of like every day — and sing and dance and play a variety of numbers. Everybody is smiley and friendly.
Medora. Dinner is at the bar of the Badlands Pizza Parlor and Saloon. I order a Moose Drool beer if for no other reason than the disgusting name. Lisa asks the barkeep, “Do you have a side salad?”
“No,” she replies, “but we have a taco pizza and we can put lettuce on it for you.” Welcome to Cowboy Town.
