Frick Park

September 2012
A couple days ago on a training hike (they’re all training hikes) I saw a snake among the partially submerged rocks at a little creek junction. Yesterday I saw another snake in the same place. This morning, again at the same junction,I saw a snakeskin on a rock just under the surface of the water. I looked closer at the striped pattern. It wasn’t a snakeskin. It was a plastic wrapper with a UPC barcode printed upon it.
You can’t scan this one.

There has been talk of corporate sponsorship of our national park land. I resist the idea of digitally inventorying our various species. Nope.
